Fishy Fishy….Birthday Cake and Cookies

I recently made a birthday cake for a repeat customer And the theme for this birthday party was goldfish! This was such a fun cake to make…..aside from the fact that my kids kept singing the McDonald’s Fish McBites commercial every time they came to check on the progress. You know the one….you probably just sang it!! Lol. “Fishy Fishy”

So this order was for the cake and cookies to match. I found and bought this really cute fish cookie cutter and I was able to frost them like goldfish…(insert another round of “Fishy Fishy” from my kids)…..

For the cake, the client had some ideas and I went with them and created this cake with matching goldfish!

This was a fun cake and cookies to make…even if I knew the McDonald’s Fish McBites jingle by heart afterwards, lol!

Baby Boike Gender Reveal Cake

This was a very fun cake to make! The idea behind the cake is that the couple doesn’t know what they are having, and neither do their friends and family…..thus why a party and a cake!! For the Boike’s cake, they gave their gender ultrasound info. to a trusted friend, and she told me what color to make the cake. Pink for a girl, blue for a boy. So when the couple goes to cut into the cake, they reveal what the sex of the baby will be! How fun is that?! The Boike’s are having a baby boy and below is the cake I made for them. The buttons, bibs, onesies, and other items on the cake are made out of some fondant I made and cut and shaped into those pieces. This is one of my favorite cakes I’ve made! Well, what’s been happening is that I went on an unofficial holiday break! But I was still busy baking and making! So, today’s post is to just share project and cake pictures since my last post. Then you can look forward to seeing new projects and cakes, starting with a “Gender Reveal” cake and contest! But first, here’s the rundown!

I don’t think I’ve shared them on the blog yet, but these were the super cute cupcakes I made for our Thanksgiving dinner with Rey’s Grandma and family. I especially love the chocolate turkeys:

Associated Charities of Lenawee County had a celebration as they reached 100 years of caring. I was asked to make their cake for their open house:

Still making Bearded Beanies! These have been super popular. I had two helpful models…doesn’t the youngest look like Zac Brown from the Zac Brown Band?? Lol:

The next birthday cake was lots of fun. It was a first birthday and had a wintery snowflake theme for the cake, smash cake, and matching cookies:

Also made my niece’s birthday cake. Zebra themed of course. I made her a zebra hat with pink trim and flower, but I forgot to take a picture! I’ll have to remember to take one! But here’s the cake:

Celebrating “Twilight”

Yep…..I’m a fan of Twilight.

Not only did I enjoy the books, but I’ve enjoyed the movies, too. And as excited as I am that the final film has been released today, it’s also kind of a downer knowing there won’t be any more to wait for with anticipation. However, I’ll still enjoy it!

Ok, so I’m a fan of Twilight. Don’t judge me. At least I’m not a “crazy” fan of Twilight like some people I know…you know who you are….I won’t call you out on my blog…LOL However, I may be considered a Twilight nerd after this post…because, not only do I enjoy the books and movies, but I also enjoy some of the clothing they wear in the movies…particularly the handmade items.

Wedding Day Memory Beads

For those of you who follow the blog, or are a fan on facebook (www.facebook.com/KBCakesCreations), you know what Memory Beads are because I’ve talked about them before. Memory Beads are beads I hand make from the flowers of a time you wish to remember, or as a way to remember someone. For example, flowers from a wedding bouquet, birth of a child, special occasions (prom, other dances, graduations, baptisms, etc.), or from the flower arrangements of a loved ones funeral. Anything or anyone you wish to remember. What I have to do is dry those flowers, then when dry, form them into beads to be used in jewelry. Below are pictures of the process from a friend’s wedding bouquet to make Memory Bead jewelry for her (and there were talks of giving a piece of jewelry to her mom, mother-in-law, etc.). Most of her jewelry pieces are neutral tones because that is what she liked, and I tried to incorporate a fall theme with leaf, red, and gold beads as her wedding was fall inspired.

Michigan vs. Michigan State

A wonderful lady I’ve had the privilege to know for a long time (I used to babysit her kids when I was younger (!) and now am lucky to call her a friend), commissioned me to make her grandchild a hat. And because her parents are Michigan fans, much to the dismay of Grandma, she got a cute blue and maize hat. Sorry, Charlotte, but…..Go Blue! lol

Isn’t that cute??

When it was time to deliver this hat, Grandma decided that if this one turned out so cute, then I must be able to make an even cuter Michigan State hat for her to put on her grand-daughter when she was with her. And so the rivalry even extends to baby hats, lol! And of course, I obliged…

So this season, when Michigan faces off against Michigan State, I wonder who she’ll be supporting??? However, either way, she’ll look cute as a button!

I’m always taking orders….call, text, email, comment, facebook me….I would love to make something for you or for one of your loved ones!

Summer Catch-Up

Time is a flyin’! I can not believe that we are almost half way thru September already! It is true what they say, time goes by so quickly…seems to go by even faster now that I’m older ( So quickly in fact that I have forgotten to post some projects from the Summer! So here goes…

Where I work we had a team for Relay for Life this year. And through out the year, we’ve been asked to help raise money for the Relay. One of those fundraisers was a silent auction. I whipped up this really neat Cancer Ribbon Scarf. I made it a lilac color so that it incompasses all forms of cancer.

I also made the following two cakes for some very special reasons. The first one is a cake I made for an Aunt and Uncle on Rey’s side that have a Dentistry in Adrian. They moved back up here several years ago from Texas, and opened a practice here. This cake was requested by their employees to celebrate the business’ success.

And for that same Aunt, I made a surprise party birthday cake a few weeks later! She was so surprised! Way to go Tio Joe and family in making it a successful surprise. And I think the cake turned out really nice, but I’m biased, lol…and she likes the tropical, beachy kinds of things ;o)

I love these kinds of cakes….it lets me be an artist with frosting, and “paint” on the cake.
